Library Card

Residents of Marcus and all rural residents of the MMCRU School District are eligible to receive a Marcus Public Library library patron account.  This includes some residents of Plymouth County.  All rural residents of Cherokee County are eligible.  Residents of Cherokee County cities not within the MMCRU school district may borrow through a cooperative program called open access.  Our library has several open access borrowers who live in bordering counties such as Sioux, O'Brien, and Woodbury Counties.

Information needed for obtaining a library card includes current legal name, physical address, and valid telephone number.  Children under the age of twelve should have parental permission before obtaining a card.  Applicants for a card will need to supply a photo ID and piece of mail or bill showing the name and proof of address.  New borrowers may be limited in the amount of materials they can check out.  (Two print items, or one print item and one video item at a time for a period of 30 days.)

Loan periods are two weeks for books, audio-books, and magazines.  DVD movies have a two day loan period (three days if checked out on Friday)  All items are renewable provided no one else is on the waiting list for the item.  Items may be renewed by coming to the library, visiting our online catalog, telephoning the library (376-2328) or e-mailing to marcuspl@midlands.net .

Current fines for overdue items are 5 cents per day for print materials and 25 cents per day for video materials.  Fines become effective after a one day grace period.

Repeated failure to return items in a timely manner, unpaid fines, or repeated lost materials may result in the suspension of checkout privileges.  Items not returned are legally considered theft of public property and charges can be filed.
