About the Library Director

Beth Kingdon, Library Director

Greetings!  I started as Library Director in June of 2013.  I grew up in Sheldon, Iowa and attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa.  After college, I worked on a ranch in Montana for several years, then moved to Carroll, Iowa.  My husband, Casey, and I were married in 2005 and moved to Marcus in 2008.  Casey teaches instrumental music in Cherokee.   I also own my own home business, Silver Maple Soap Company, making and selling handmade soaps and body products online and at local retailers.  When I'm not working, I enjoy photography, traveling, spending time with friends and family, working with our dogs, and horseback riding.

Reading has always been important to me; I was that kid that loved nothing better than to curl up with a good book.  My favorite genre is fiction-- especially historical fiction.  My favorite authors are Susanna Kearsley and John Steinbeck, and my favorite book is whatever I'm reading now!

Some of my favorites:

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Betty Smith

East of Eden - John Steinbeck

Life on the Mississippi - Mark Twain

Mrs. Mike - Benedict and Nancy Freedman

Blue Highways

- William Least Heat Moon

A Light Between Oceans - M.L. Stedman

The Shadowy Horses - Susanna Kearsley

Plainsong - Kent Haruf
